HK Express | Summer Floral Workshop
Client Objectives
For Employee Wellness Month 2026, Hong Kong Express wanted to arrange an activity that would allow colleagues to truly relax for a while.
Compared with a typical team activity, the HR team wanted to focus more on employee wellbeing this time, giving everyone a chance to step away from their usual work rhythm, create something hands-on in a relaxed and enjoyable environment, and spend an afternoon without talking about work.
We therefore designed the entire workshop to be simple and easy to follow, so that all 30 participants could take part comfortably, even without any floral design experience.
Our Approach
In August 2026, we visited Hong Kong Express's office at the airport to hold a 90-minute summer-themed Floral Workshop for 30 employees as part of Employee Wellness Month.
Since it was summer, we did not want to create a floral piece that felt too formal. Instead, we made “ice cream” the theme of this workshop.
Each participant received an ice cream cup-shaped vase. Using floral foam as the base, they layered pink and lilac hydrangeas to create a rounded, full ice cream shape, then added different small flowers and fillers to complete their own “floral ice cream.”
We chose hydrangeas partly because their natural shape is especially well suited to this design. Their large, clustered petals easily create the rounded, fluffy feel of ice cream, while the pink and lilac colour palette also captures the spirit of summer.
For participants experiencing floral design for the first time, this piece is not too complicated while still leaving plenty of room for creativity. Everyone placed and combined the flowers slightly differently, so when the 30 “ice creams” were put together, each one had its own character.
Workshop Experience
The 90-minute workshop went by even faster than we expected.
From the initial demonstration to everyone gradually completing their own piece, the atmosphere remained lively throughout. Some colleagues chatted with one another while arranging their flowers and checking each other's progress, and many took photos holding their finished pieces.
The HR team also said that the activity achieved the wellness goals they had set for Employee Wellness Month, allowing colleagues to truly step away from work for a while and do something completely different from their usual duties.
Sometimes, an employee activity doesn't need to be complicated.
An ice cream cup, a bunch of hydrangeas, and 90 minutes without having to deal with work were enough for everyone to sit down together, make something with their hands, and enjoy a happy afternoon.
And for us, this is also what makes the Floral Workshop so appealing: you don't need to know anything about flowers or have any experience. All you need to do is sit down, take your time, and leave with a piece you've made yourself.
